We provide subsidised veterinary assistance to the indigent and underprivileged residents of our service area. A minimum of 15000 animals are helped annually‚ including those belonging to unemployed, pensioners and others who may have been forgotten.
Many injured stray, abandoned, unwanted and owned animals come through our doors on a daily basis. The SPCA believes that pet ownership is a privilege and not a right; therefore we encourage responsible pet ownership. Owners need to factor in the cost of routine veterinary consultations and treatments prior to obtaining a pet. The public needs to be aware that failure to obtain veterinary treatment for a sick or injured animal is against the law and negligent persons can be prosecuted under the Animals Protection Act.

The Almoning System:
The JSPCA provides a subsidised veterinary service for people who cannot afford the services of a private veterinarian. However, not everyone does qualify for such benefits. Completion of an Almoning; Consent to Treatment form and Proof of Income, will determine whether one is eligible or not.
The Sterilisation Policy:
There is a strict policy regarding treatment of unsterilised animals. As we do not promote breeding of animals, we will not treat animals if their owner does not consent to sterilisation of said animal. This is adhered to at all times, unless the attending Veterinarian waives this procedure on medical grounds.
