Johannesburg SPCA has taken part in International Spay Day for the 5 year now. Our outreach team was kept busy the weeks leading up to Spay Day with vaccinations, deworming and dipping and the week of Spay Day (25th February – 1 March 2013) collecting the animals for sterilisation, and then returning them to their homes.
We are proud to announce that between the Johannesburg and Krugersdorp SPCA we vaccinated and sterilised over 200 animals!
Jolene Beyleveld, Public Relations officer said - “I’m very proud of the number of animals we sterilised, and I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff at the Johannesburg and Krugersdorp SPCA who made this possible.”
Benefits of sterilising your pets!
v You will save the lives of millions of unwanted animals, there are not enough good homes for all the animals that are produced by indiscriminate breeding.
v Males who are not sterilized will most likely make every attempt to escape from your property to get to the female on heat, even if she is 5 km away. He may get lost and / or be injured by a car, person or another animal.
v Neutering reduces or eliminates the risk of spraying by cats to mark territory.
v Neutering reduces or eliminates testicular cancer and decreases the incidents of prostate disease.
v Spaying reduces or eliminates the risk of mammary gland tumours, ovarian and/or uterine cancer.
Speak to your local veterinarian for more information about sterilisation.
Together we can create a kinder world in which every pet is happy, living in a loving, lifetime home. |
