Fireworks and the Law

According to the bylaws, the use of fireworks is prohibited in certain circumstances unless authorised.. 
- No person may discharge fireworks where there are animals present.
- Persons under the age of 16 may not use explosives without adult supervision. 
- Fireworks must not be used inside any building, on any agricultural holding, at any public place, at any school, at any old age home, at any hospital and within 500m of explosives (factoryor storage) or petrol depo or station.

 

Fireworks can only be used during the following designated times over the New Year period:
New Years Eve: 23h00-01h00
New Years Day: 19h00-22h00

 

No person may deal in fireworks unless that person holds the required fireworks licence in terms of the Explosives Act which is issued by SAPS Explosives unit and the City of Johannesburg.  Fireworks must be stored in in lockable steel lockers where the storage limit for wholesalers is 1000kg and 500kg for resellers.  Signage indicating dealer in fireworks must be displayed outside.
